Orthopedics
Orthopedics
Orthopedics encompasses a broad branch of medicine that deals with the prevention and diagnosis of musculoskeletal disorders and injuries. An orthopedist not only treats ailments that result from the malfunction of the skeletal system (except for the bones of the skull), but also deals with any disorders of ligaments, joints, muscles, tendons or nerves. Orthopedics specializes in correcting and preventing postural defects and treating malformations of the musculoskeletal system.
During an orthopedic consultation, the doctor takes a detailed history with the patient – asking not only about general health, but also about previous injuries or conditions, medications taken and symptoms observed. Orthopedic treatment is tailored to the patient’s individual needs.
